Mark Brand Architecture San Francisco project
The owner of this house loved its Victorian character, but didn't like the one car garage or the clumsily laid out kitchen which had been remodeled by a previous owner. In addition the house had a full basement which held the potential to add much needed living space to the house. We demolished the one car garage and replaced it with a two car garage more in keeping with the Victorian style of the house. At the rear of the house, a small bump-out was demolished and we created a new kitchen addition complete with a pressed tin ceiling, wainscoting and custom cabinets with beaded panels. After excavating a couple of feet of earth at the basement for additional ceiling height, we created a suite of rooms which included a guest bed and bath, a home theater and a wine cellar. At our client's request, the basement rooms have a more contemporary feeling.
