Our client for this 10,000 square foot house on a 13 acre parcel in Marin County wanted a French Chateau and we approached his dream with unrestrained enthusiasm. Featuring Mansard roofs, a stone entry rotunda and a glass conservatory, the house was designed to fit into the hillside rather than dominate it. The mass of the building was broken into a series of blocks in two spreading wings winked to each other by a gently curving center portion. The angled wings create visual interest and orient the rooms toward views of Indian Valley. Our work included design of access roads, a small lake, a swimming pool, and an involved and sensitive process of permit approvals. The house includes a home gym and theatre, a chef's kitchen, a great room, and four bedrooms. Although construction is well under way, the project is on currently on hold.
